Inspired by the chess piece, which moves diagonally, the Bishop defies linear movements, serving as both a stool and a side table. Available in over 20 color options, this timeless design adapts seamlessly to various styles and can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Over the years, India Mahdavi has continuously reimagined the iconic form, adding new dimensions, materials, and functionalities to its design. The collection now includes innovative pieces such as the smaller Baby Bishop stool, the larger Cocktail table, and the Peanut tray that unites two Bishops. The COD (Direct Object Complement) tray further enhances the collection by transforming the stool into a functional side table.

Reflecting on the creation process, India Mahdavi says: “I created the Bishop stool to bring to life a design that didn’t exist. I wanted to create a sculptural and unique piece that, when grouped together, could resemble a chessboard. The initial design was very graphic and bold, but it was aimed at a narrow production scale. I later adapted it into a more versatile design that could function as both a stool and a side table. My work with ceramics began during a hotel project in Mexico City, where the material inspired my first ceramic design, offering a texture that is visually warm yet physically cool.”
