H. Moser & Cie. ventures into unexpected territory with the new Off-Grid. Displaying time in two different ways, the question is: is it digital or mechanical?
Dials without indexes or logos, cases made from cheese, chronographs that do not look like chronographs… Such unconventional creations immediately bring H. Moser & Cie. to mind. Known for challenging traditional watchmaking conventions, the independent manufacture is now entering another unexpected territory with a digital watch. The Off-Grid is not quite a mechanical watch, yet neither is it a smartwatch as we know it.
Its openworked dial incorporates two distinct displays: a fumé dial and a digital screen. Positioned towards 12 o’clock, the fumé dial draws on Moser’s familiar design language, featuring hour and minute hands alongside traditional indexes. Directly below it sits the digital display, which can show sunrise and sunset times, measure elapsed time using the chronograph function, operate an alarm and display the phases of the Moon. The screen can be switched on and off using a pusher positioned at 9 o’clock on the case.
The openworked construction of the Off-Grid also reveals an unconventional architecture beneath the dial. Powering the watch is caliber D10, developed in collaboration with SEQUENT. Compatible with both iOS and Android, the Off-Grid offers a battery life of up to six months.
The Off-Grid is available in two versions. Both feature a 42.6 mm stainless-steel case, with one clad in blue composite material and the other in black composite. The black version pairs a red fumé dial with an integrated black rubber strap, while the blue version features a dark grey fumé dial and a white rubber strap. Each version is limited to 1,000 pieces.
The watches will be available exclusively through H. Moser & Cie. boutiques and the brand’s official website. From 21 to 23 September, access will be reserved for existing clients, before gradually opening to the wider Moser community from 24 September. This first edition will remain available until 5 October.
