Although the momentum behind electric cars may seem to have slowed, battery-powered innovations continue at full speed across every segment as we approach the new year. Here are the electric cars set to make their mark on 2027.

The new year will bring a wide range of new models, and we will continue to see fresh electric options in almost every segment, from B-segment hatchbacks to full-size ultra-luxury SUVs. Many of them are expected to reach Turkish roads as well, while 2027 is likely to bring its share of surprises and changes.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV: Similar, Yet Different

In 2027, we will see two very different interpretations of the C-Class on the road. The existing C-Class will continue in sedan and estate body styles with a facelift and internal-combustion hybrid powertrains, while the fully electric C-Class will arrive in the final quarter of 2027 with a design that feels both familiar and distinctly different.

In terms of design, the conventional C-Class maintains a traditional, aristocratic stance with its long bonnet, rear-set cabin and classic three-box sedan proportions. The fully electric C-Class, on the other hand, distinguishes itself with a lower front end derived from the MB.EA platform, a flowing roofline and a fastback/Kammback silhouette that gently tapers towards the rear.

Genesis also intends the GV90 to serve as a more accessible alternative to ultra-luxury models such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga. At the same time, it seeks to appeal to customers who might previously have chosen the increasingly rare F-segment luxury sedan, reflecting a careful understanding of contemporary luxury-mobility expectations.

Fully electric and producing 657 horsepower, the Genesis GV90 features an 800V fast-charging architecture, rear-wheel steering and a smooth multi-chamber air suspension system. Beyond its visual presence, it aims to rival established luxury manufacturers in ride comfort and cabin refinement, with features including acoustic glass more than 5 mm thick.

A curved OLED screen can expand from 23.6 inches to 24.6 inches while the vehicle is stationary, while the 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with Virtual Venue technology can recreate the acoustic characteristics of legendary venues such as Wembley Stadium, elevating the in-car digital experience even further.

Thanks to its 800V architecture, the Genesis GV90 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes and is expected to offer a driving range of around 500 kilometres on a single charge. Initially focused on the North American market, the GV90 is expected to enter Europe by mid-2027, with a projected starting price of around €150,000. There has not yet been any official confirmation regarding its introduction to the Turkish market.

Range Rover Electric: The Inevitable Evolution

If even the Mercedes-Benz G-Class can have a fully electric version, why shouldn’t the Range Rover? Enter one of 2027’s most luxurious electric SUVs: the Range Rover Electric.

Equipped with an advanced battery pack with a capacity exceeding 110 kWh and an all-wheel-drive system powered by two electric motors, the Range Rover Electric aims to deliver acceleration comparable to V8-powered models while offering a WLTP driving range of close to 600 kilometres.

Naturally, it remains true to the brand’s legendary off-road heritage. Thanks to a specially insulated battery enclosure and intelligent driving modes, it is capable of wading through water up to 90 centimetres deep, setting it apart from many rivals. Of course, using it under such conditions will reduce the available driving range. After all, a Range Rover is not designed solely for luxury boulevards; it is engineered to keep moving off the beaten track as well.

Compared with its combustion-engined siblings, the Range Rover Electric is equipped with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics, or IDD, which can detect and react to wheel slip up to 100 times faster, in approximately 50 milliseconds.

This allows the system to distribute torque between the rear wheels anywhere between 0 and 100 percent in real time, helping the vehicle maximise traction across different surfaces.

As always, Range Rover brings an array of sophisticated engineering solutions in pursuit of first-class travel. Acoustic laminated glass, dedicated floor insulation and an Active Road Noise Cancellation system, combined with driver- and passenger-focused speakers integrated into the headrests of the Meridian sound system, are designed to make the Range Rover Electric the quietest and most serene travelling environment in the brand’s history.

By focusing on cancelling unwanted sound waves through a combination of counteracting acoustic frequencies and vibration-reduction technologies, the cabin is designed to allow only the sensations occupants choose to experience.

Alongside traditional luxury leather upholstery, fully leather-free interiors will also be available. Special concepts such as Light Cloud combine Kvadrat wool-blend technical textiles with premium sustainable materials such as Ultrafabrics.

The VIP-lounge atmosphere is completed by electrically operated centre armrests incorporating 8-inch touchscreens, heated armrests and door panels, electrically adjustable seats with hot-stone massage functionality, and Cabin Air Purification Pro technology featuring PM2.5 and nanoe X filtration. All of this is expected to reach the road in 2027.

Volkswagen ID. Polo: Now Electric Too

The Volkswagen Polo, perhaps the ultimate embodiment of the idea of the ā€œpeople’s car,ā€ is set to become one of 2027’s most ambitious electric models.

Despite being shorter than the current combustion-powered VW Polo, the ID. Polo benefits from the packaging advantages of the MEB+ platform. It promises generous interior space and a 441-litre luggage compartment, a figure well above the norm for its class. Volkswagen is targeting a European starting price of below €25,000.

Even in the electric era, the Polo will retain a GTI version. The VW ID. Polo GTI will become the first fully electric production model in the brand’s 50-year GTI history. Its front-mounted electric motor produces 226 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

When the driver selects the ā€œGTIā€ driving profile, the vehicle’s systems switch into a more dynamic configuration, while the digital cockpit and 13-inch infotainment screen adopt special red-and-black GTI graphics and colour schemes.

The new Polo combines a driver-focused 10-inch digital instrument cluster with a centrally mounted 13-inch tablet-style ā€œInnovisionā€ infotainment display. Also noteworthy is a nostalgic digital ā€œRetro Displayā€ theme inspired by the first-generation Golf.

Depending on the version, retro-inspired seat upholstery will further connect the spirit of the past with the modern electric driving experience. We will, however, have to wait a little longer before the exact versions of the Polo to be offered in 2027 are confirmed.

Sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells provide up to 30 percent greater energy density, while charging capability of up to 400 kW is intended to redefine the experience of long-distance travel in an electric car.

New Electric Cars Coming in 2027
2027 Electric Cars

The BMW i3 is expected to offer up to 559 kilometres of range under WLTP standards, while real-world highway and urban driving scenarios could push that figure beyond 700 kilometres.

Around 400 kilometres of additional range can be gained from just 10 minutes of charging, while a 10-to-80-percent charge is expected to take only 20 to 21 minutes.

The range-topping version uses two electric motors and a rear-biased intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system, producing 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4.5 seconds.

And with an M3 version of the BMW i3 also on the horizon, it is easy to believe that this once unusual vision of the future is very close to becoming today’s reality.
