Longines reinterprets the Master Collection with new three-hand models, moonphase chronographs and the collection’s first monopusher chronograph.
One of the collections that best reflects Longines’ approach to classical watchmaking, the Master Collection returns with a comprehensive update more than two decades after its debut. First introduced in 2005, the collection brought together design codes rooted in the brand’s history, mechanical complications and timeless lines under one roof. The new-generation Master Collection preserves that character while offering a more contemporary interpretation across everything from case proportions and dial finishing to movements and bracelets.
The standout model in the renewed collection is undoubtedly the Longines Master Collection Chrono Monopusher. Alongside it, moonphase chronographs and three-hand models offered in a range of case sizes shape the next chapter of the Master Collection.
The Collection’s First Monopusher Chronograph
One of the most significant additions to the Longines Master Collection is the introduction of a monopusher chronograph for the first time in the collection’s history. Housed in a 41 mm stainless-steel case, the Chrono Monopusher controls the start, stop and reset functions of the chronograph through a single pusher integrated into the crown.
The concept itself is not new to Longines. The brand produced one of its early wristwatch monopusher chronographs in 1911, followed in 1913 by the introduction of the important 13.33Z calibre. This period became a defining chapter in Longines’ chronograph history and also strengthened the brand’s ties with aviation and exploration.
Rather than directly reproducing a historic model, the new Chrono Monopusher reinterprets that heritage within the contemporary aesthetic of the Master Collection.
The pulsometer scale positioned around the outer edge of the dial is another link to vintage chronograph design. Before electronic measuring devices became widespread, pulsometer chronographs were used particularly by doctors to calculate a patient’s pulse by timing a set number of heartbeats.
L799.5 Calibre and 68 Hours of Power Reserve
Inside the Chrono Monopusher is the Longines-exclusive, manually wound and column-wheel L799.5 calibre. Equipped with a silicon balance spring, the movement offers up to 68 hours of power reserve.
The chronograph display is kept deliberately simple, with a central 60-second chronograph hand and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The movement can also be viewed through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The model is available with two dial options: silver opaline and ice blue. A barleycorn pattern is combined with snailed subdials and a sandblasted outer section, creating a layered sense of depth. Applied Arabic numerals in rhodium or 5N rose-gold tones preserve the classical character associated with the Master Collection.
Moonphase Remains a Master Collection Signature
Another important pillar of the collection is the Longines Master Collection Chrono Moonphase. The moonphase complication has long been one of the most recognisable features of the Master Collection and continues to be paired with chronograph and calendar indications in the latest models.
The 41 mm stainless-steel case houses the Longines-exclusive automatic L687.5 calibre. The column-wheel chronograph movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers up to 66 hours of power reserve.
A small-seconds display and 24-hour indicator sit at 9 o’clock, while the 30-minute chronograph counter at 12 o’clock is combined with day and month indications. At 6 o’clock, a 12-hour chronograph counter shares space with the moonphase display. The date is indicated by a central hand tipped with a crescent moon.
The new silver dial features a barleycorn pattern, snailed subdials, blue applied numerals and blued-steel hands, lending the watch a more textured and layered appearance.
Longines’ relationship with moonphase displays also predates the Master Collection by many decades. The brand’s museum collection includes early 20th-century pocket watches combining chronograph, calendar and moonphase functions, including a particularly elaborate example dating from 1911.
New Proportions for the Three-Hand Models
The three-hand models at the more understated end of the Master Collection have also been extensively revised. The watches are now offered in 30, 34, 39 and 41 mm case sizes.
A concave bezel gives the cases a more fluid appearance, while the removal of the dial flange creates a more open and spacious composition. The barleycorn guilloché pattern, one of the collection’s defining visual signatures, remains central to the design.
On the 39 and 41 mm models, the pattern extends across the entire surface of silver, light-blue and dark-blue dials, while the smaller sizes use it in different configurations. Selected white mother-of-pearl and ice-blue versions are also available with diamond hour markers.
The three-hand watches are powered by the Longines-exclusive automatic L592.5 and L888.5 calibres, both visible through transparent casebacks. Redesigned steel bracelets with shorter links and micro-adjustment clasps are among the practical updates intended to improve comfort on the wrist.
Longines’ Home of Elegance
Longines is introducing the renewed Master Collection through its new “Home of Elegance” campaign. Kate Winslet, Jennifer Lawrence, Henry Cavill, Zhao Liying, Yosh Yu and Eddie Peng come together in the campaign, highlighting the brand’s interpretation of elegance through different personalities and cultures.
The new Master Collection follows a similar philosophy. Rather than abandoning its established design codes, Longines has refined the proportions, surfaces and mechanical architecture that have defined the collection for more than two decades.
From the three-hand models and moonphase chronographs to the new Chrono Monopusher, the renewed Master Collection presents a contemporary interpretation of the classical watchmaking language that has long formed part of Longines’ identity.
