Vacheron Constantin celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Overseas collection with the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, distinguished by its white gold case and blue dial.

A spirit of travel, sporty elegance and Haute Horlogerie complications: since 1996, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas has brought these three worlds together within a single collection. Created to mark its 30th anniversary, the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin presents the familiar design in a combination never seen before: a white gold case, light blue dial and an ultra-thin perpetual calendar movement. Limited to just 200 pieces, the model also retains the versatility that has long defined the Overseas as a travel watch. The Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin comes with three interchangeable options: a white gold bracelet and blue and white rubber straps.

The foundations of the Overseas can be traced back to the sporty yet elegant watches developed by Vacheron Constantin during the 1970s. The Chronomètre Royal of 1975 was one of the early expressions of this approach, while the 222, introduced in 1977, became one of the most important examples of the Maison’s sport-chic design language. The Overseas followed in 1996 as a contemporary continuation of this legacy.

With the introduction of the second generation in 2004, the design took on a stronger and sportier character. Its integrated bracelet, composed of links recalling the shape of the Maltese cross, became one of the collection’s signature details. Complicated watches and gem-set interpretations also began to expand the Overseas family during this period.

The third generation, the Overseas as we know it today, arrived in 2016. The lines of the case became more fluid, while recognisable elements such as the notched bezel and integrated bracelet were retained. Alongside new movements developed for models including the chronograph, dual time and world time, one of the generation’s most significant innovations was its tool-free interchangeable strap system. With the ability to switch between a metal bracelet and leather or rubber straps in a matter of seconds, the Overseas further reinforced its identity as a true travel watch.

A New Shade of Blue

When Vacheron Constantin introduced the third-generation Overseas in 2016, it also debuted an intense blue dial that would go on to become one of the collection’s most recognisable signatures. The depth created by metallic tones and multiple layers of lacquer gave this particular shade of blue a distinctive character.

For the new Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, however, Vacheron Constantin has opted for a lighter, less saturated blue for the first time. Evoking expansive skies and open seas, the new shade offers a more serene interpretation of the collection’s themes of travel and exploration. The dial shifts subtly in tone as it catches the light, while the cool, restrained lustre of the white gold case provides a natural counterpoint.

The visual harmony of the lacquered dial continues with a moonphase disc rendered in the same blue tone. The calendar indications and applied hour markers provide enough contrast to enhance legibility without disturbing the dial’s soft and balanced colour palette.

Inside the slender case of the new Overseas is Calibre 1120 QP/1. Measuring just 5.05 mm thick, the movement allows the overall case thickness to remain an impressively slim 8.1 mm.

The Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is presented on an integrated white gold bracelet. Its clasp features a micro-adjustment system, allowing subtle adjustments throughout the day as the wrist naturally changes in size.

The watch is also delivered with two textured rubber straps, one in white and the other in denim blue. Both are paired with an interchangeable white gold buckle. Thanks to the collection’s quick-change system, the bracelet and straps can be fitted or removed without the use of any tools.
