Design Miami.Paris 2024 captivates the art world by bringing together works that unite history and contemporary design at the 18th-century L’hôtel de Maisons in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
The second edition of Design Miami.Paris opened its doors on October 16 at the enchanting 18th-century L’hôtel de Maisons, located in one of the most prestigious areas of Paris, Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Running until October 20, 2024, the event hosts 30 international participants presenting a wide collection that highlights both historical and contemporary designs.
One of the fair’s highlights was the sale of a prefabricated house from 1946 by Jean Prouvé, presented by Galerie Downtown-Laffanour (Paris). This rare structure was sold for over one million euros on the opening day. Built in 1946 and furnished with pieces by Charlotte Perriand, the house received the “Best Design in the Grand Presentation” award for its historical significance and impeccable preservation.
Salon 94 Design (New York) also drew attention by exhibiting Rick Owens’ Tomb Chairs and rare works by Gaetano Pesce, such as the Palladio Cabinet and Flower Origami Table, displayed in the garden of L’hôtel de Maisons.
Among the first-time participants this year, Galerie Gastou (Paris) presented significant works by Jean Touret alongside contemporary pieces by Agnès Debizet. Galerie Gastou was awarded the “Best Gallery Presentation” prize for its innovative exhibition.
Another notable presentation was Galerie Mitterrand’s (Paris) dining room set by François-Xavier Lalanne, made from Carrara marble and steel.
This unique collection won the “Best Historical Design Object” award.
Carpenters Workshop Gallery (London / New York / Paris / Los Angeles) showcased Marc Newson’s Pod of Drawers, a modern and playful work inspired by 18th-century French design. Newson’s piece was honored with the “Best Contemporary Design Object” award.
