Jaeger LeCoultre introduced its novelties with the theme “The Stellar Odyssey” that reinterprets astronomical phenomena in the form of timepieces.

“Face the south to gaze at the sky and look at the Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 945 to recognize the constellations.”

Gregory Vandel, Watchmaker

In the beginning was the sky. Since the beginning of history, the movement of the planets and constellations have been used to measure the passing of time. Perhaps the origins of horology began when humans raised their heads to the sky to explore the depths of the time. After than, astronomical phenomena continued to inspire watch makers. From the very beginning of the Maison, Jaeger LeCoultre has been continually inspired by the sky, too. And now, the brand introduces a series of watches that inspired by phenomena in its design and technical features to honor this noble legacy. Here are novelties of Jaeger LeCoultre.

Under the theme of “The Stellar Odyssey”, Jeager LeCoultre will display how the mystery of time translated into micro-mechanical wonders through a series of events and thematic exhibition in 2022. The first step was taken on the first day of Watches and Wonders 2022. With novelties, the brand revealed both the artistic designs of timepieces and its expertise on technical side. For instance, the Rendez-Vous Star and Dazzling Star models contain an in-house Caliber 734 with a shooting star display, which is a never-seen-before complication. The layered sapphire dial is inspired by the encountering of a real-life shooting star by chance. All these two models are in 36 mm and their dials reminds a starry night that are decorated with precious stones. The timepieces can be worn by both ladies and gentlemen.

Another series introduced is the Master Hybris Artistica Caliber 945 Galaxia and Atomium models. From the beginning, we should say that these timepieces are quite complicated. (Yet, it can be easily read.) A “celestial vault” is used in the watch that display the constellations makes this possible, in conjunction with the concept of a Cosmotourbillon which circumnavigates the dial once every 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.1 seconds.

The Galaxia model comes in a rose gold case with black dial, whilst the Atomium comes in white gold case with navy blue dial. Jaeger LeCoultre watch makers used grisaille enamel technique for the first time on the dials for constellation charts. Grisaille is an artistic technique were developed in the 16th in France. Thanks to this rare technique, the dials of the Master Hybris Artistica Caliber 945 deftly depict the night sky. Models are limited to 5 pieces.

When it comes to Master Grande Tradition Caliber 948, the watch brings the world to your wrist. The base of the dial is designed with blue lacquer applied on a wavy guilloché pattern to represent the ocean; the land of the Northern Hemisphere is carved on a domed skeleton structure to give an extra depth. The detailed craftsmanship is enhanced by a flying tourbillon that rotates around the dial every 24 hours.

And the clocks… The brand introduced two clocks in the Watches and Wonders 2022: Atmos Infinite and Hybris Mechanica. Actually, the concept of the Atmos clock dates to the 1930s, and the brand has continued to develop its concept since then. On the other hand, Atmos Infinite comes with somewhat mysticism, which is provided by the glass case that shows the watch as if it is oscillating in space. The plain black and silver metal structure of the watch hides the complex depth of the time with its plain design.

Its sister model Atmos Hybris Mechanica is a bit more complex than Atmos. It displays the relative movements of the Earth, the moon and the sun in real time. The Caliber 590 is the deepest movement ever produced for Atmos clocks. The mechanism was produced more than four years. Also, the Moon, the phases of the Moon and the zodiac calendar can be seen on the dial. As Saatolog editors, we will continue to follow the movements of the sky by the exhibitions of “The Stellar Odyssey”.
