Every year on June 1st, Oris celebrates its birthday—and as part of a cherished tradition, unveils a new Hölstein Edition timepiece. This year’s model, the Hölstein Edition 2025, comes with a mysterious twist on the dial.
The independent Swiss watchmaker has now marked five consecutive years of honoring its anniversary with a limited-edition release. For 2025, Oris introduces a limited edition with a subtle surprise hidden in the details. But before we take a closer look, let’s revisit where the Oris journey began.
The story dates back to 1904, when two watchmakers left the horological heartland of Le Locle and headed northeast to the town of Hölstein, near Basel. They founded Oris on June 1st of that same year, naming it after a nearby river. For more than 120 years, Oris has been crafting mechanical watches in its factory, nestled in the green hills of Hölstein.

The new release is the sixth annual Hölstein Edition 2025. Limited to just 250 pieces, the watch joins the ProPilot line and debuts with an eye-catching feature: a fully luminous dial—the first of its kind in the series. The dial glows green in low light, and between 3 and 4 o’clock, the silhouette of Oris’s beloved bear mascot makes a playful appearance.

With matte black Arabic numerals and hands for hours, minutes, and seconds, the design remains minimal and pure. Notably, the familiar date window —typically found on ProPilot models— is absent. Instead, the dial features the inscription “5 Days,” a nod to the Calibre 400 movement powering the watch, which boasts an impressive five-day power reserve.
The 41 mm stainless steel case is paired with a signature fluted bezel, while the open sapphire caseback is surrounded by a Super-LumiNova-coated ring. Just like the dial, this ring glows green in the dark and is inscribed with “Hölstein Edition 2025.”

Oris’s press release for the launch includes a brief interview with CEO Rolf Studer, who shared a glimpse into how the brand celebrates its birthday. True to the Oris spirit, he remarked: “In Oris style… We’ll gather with our team in Hölstein, enjoy a few beers, fire up the barbecue…”
