You don’t need a passport to feel transported to the Mediterranean coast. With its Riviera collection, Baume & Mercier brings the soothing palette of the French Riviera directly to your wrist.
Picture the deep blue sea bathed in golden sunlight, beaches bordered by pine trees—this breathtaking corner of the Mediterranean has long inspired films, literature, and now, fine watchmaking. Drawing from this natural wonder, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier named its iconic Riviera collection after the French Riviera. To this day, the enduring charm of the Mediterranean continues to shape and inspire the Riviera line.
First introduced in 1973, the Riviera was one of the earliest luxury sports watches crafted from stainless steel. Its distinctive design—marked by a 12-sided case, matching bezel, and integrated bracelet—blended sporty sophistication and quickly captured the imagination of watch enthusiasts. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the collection expanded with models in stainless steel and gold, and later evolved to include both automatic and quartz movements. Over time, the Riviera was enhanced with various complications such as chronographs, moon phases, and calendar functions. The iconic original design, distinguished by four screws on the bezel, made a celebrated return in 2021. In 2023, the Riviera celebrated its 50th anniversary, and in the following year, new models were introduced with case sizes ranging from 33 to 42 mm.
A Homage to the Riviera’s Landscape Through the Dial
The new generation of Riviera watches continues the legacy of this iconic collection, blending sporty elegance with designs tailored for both men and women. The most recent models introduced in the past year pay homage to the French Riviera’s natural beauty through their dial colors—each a visual reference to the region that inspired the collection.
The Riviera M0A10770 model brings to life the pine-covered shores of the Mediterranean with a smoked green dial. Its shifting light and dark tones evoke the dappled shadows cast by tree branches. Golden Roman numerals and a matching gold-toned seconds hand enhance the dial’s warmth, while a wide date window at the 3 o’clock position adds a touch of functionality. The green dial presents time as if viewed from beneath the tranquil shade of a grand pine.
Housed in a 39 mm stainless steel case and water-resistant to 100 meters, the watch is paired with a triple-folding stainless-steel bracelet, offering both comfort and elegance. The tool-free interchangeable strap system makes customization easy.Â
