Tag Heuer’s new smart watch TAG Heuer Connected Caliber E4, rewrites the relationships of the haute horology with the smart watch segment.
What distinguishes a luxury watch from any other? Of course, various features can be listed from the mechanism to the craftsmanship, yet perhaps the most important aspect is that each of these sophisticated timepieces is quite long-lasting. Actually, this is the much-debated side of discussion about whether smart watch is located in haute horology or not. This discussion undoubtedly can be dragged for hours, but not let us take a look at a smart watch that just dropped.
When the brand announced the first version of the TAG Heuer Connected series in New York about 7 years ago, it was one of the first leading watchmakers to bring digital to the mechanical world of high watchmaking. Has been continuing to launch its smart watches since then, Tag Heuer presented the traditional watch look that we are used to with the GMT and Chronograph features of these watches, while it also managed to increase the traditional watch feel the possibilities of turning to the mechanical module offered in the latest versions. The brand also added fun to this technology with the Super Mario Limited Edition, which was announced last year and sold instantly sold out. And now, it is time to TAG Heuer Connected Caliber E4.
When I saw the images of the watch, the first thing on my mind was that it seems like a true traditional timepiece. However, its well-equipped fitness applications and software prove that it is a smart watch. Maintained to Silicon Valley standards with updates on a range of swimming, golf and health apps, the timepiece is equipped to meet its wearer’s need while using. New watch also features 7-minute training programs with 3D animations designed by synchronizing the movements of personal trainers. Furthermore, with this new trade-in programs, daily step and heart rate can be recorded. There is no need a smartphone connection, while using these programs. High-resolution display, an extra altimeter and the Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection, which strengthens the connection between the watch and smartphone, are among the updated features of new watch. Also, the 45 mm version has a longer battery life, about 30 percent.
New Caliber E4 comes with two alternative case options: Stainless steel is preferred for the case, which is designed with a thickness of 42 mm. This model does not include an external bezel, instead a curved sapphire crystal is used, which gives a more fluid and organic feel. The 42 mm case seem to be a model that can be worn comfortably thanks to its thin structure, especially when rubber bracelet is preferred. On the other hand, the 45 mm version features a ceramic bezel and there are two options for the case material, which are stainless steel and titanium.
Among the comments from watch enthusiasts, TAG Heuer Connected Caliber E4 is the best smart watch that the brand has ever produced in this product group. And one of the issues discussed with the Caliber E4 is whether the smart watches produced by luxury watch brands can compete with Apple’s smart watches. While we have a long time to see who will take the lead in this race, we won’t have to wait that long for the new Caliber E4. TAG Heuer Connected Caliber E4, which will be available for sale from authorized TAG Heuer sales points as of March 10, will also be available in the first Turkish boutique of the brand opened in Galataport recently.
