Under the leadership of new director Bridget Finn, Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 offered an unforgettable experience to art enthusiasts with record attendance, impressive sales, and an innovative program.
Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 marked a remarkable return under the leadership of new director Bridget Finn. The event, America’s most prestigious art fair, presented an innovative vision that resonated with art lovers, collectors, and institutions alike.
This year, 286 galleries from 38 countries participated, with two-thirds of them representing the United States. The fair hosted over 75,000 visitors, including more than 230 representatives from famous museums and foundations such as MoMA, Tate, and Fondation Beyeler, during both VIP and public days. The significant participation from esteemed institutions once again highlighted the fair’s pivotal role in the global art scene.
Participating galleries celebrated record sales, with intense demand for works spanning a wide range, from contemporary stars to 20th-century masters, new talents to avant-garde names. Notable artists such as Pablo Picasso, Cecily Brown, Kara Walker, and Wangechi Mutu were among those exhibited. Sales covered all market segments, from historic icons to works by innovative creators.
This edition, led by Bridget Finn, drew attention with the redesigned Meridians section, curated by Yasmil Raymond. Presented in an open layout, this section featured monumental works and dynamic dialogues between artists and viewers. The Conversations program, curated by Kimberly Bradley, reached new participation records with standout events like Shirin Neshat’s “Premiere Artist Talk.”
The event continued to support impactful art by expanding its cultural programs. Miami Beach’s Legacy Purchasing Program made a lasting impact on the local community by acquiring Nina Surel’s ceramic piece Allegory of Florida (2023). Additionally, French artist Johanna Mirabel’s striking figurative works were honored with the CPGA-Étant Donnés Award, emphasizing the fair’s commitment to supporting global artistic talent.
Art Basel Miami Beach also led the way in digital innovation. The Digital Dialogues section, powered by Microsoft’s artificial intelligence technology, explored the intersection of art and technology, while Sarah Andelman’s curated Art Basel Shop returned with exclusive collections. UBS-curated installations provided a platform for diverse voices, celebrating the 30th anniversary of this collaboration.
Bridget Finn, the new director of Art Basel Miami Beach, expressed the success of the event with the following words: “This year’s edition reflected Art Basel’s commitment to ambitious programs, bold ideas, and inclusivity. I am truly grateful to our galleries and partners for trusting us to create this transformative experience.”
