Istanbul Modern, Turkey’s first modern and contemporary museum, had been operating in Antrepo No. 4 for 14 years. Due to the construction of its new building in the same location, it has been meeting art lovers in its temporary building in Beyoğlu for the last five years. In 2023, it returned to Karaköy. Istanbul Modern’s new building bears the signature of renowned architect Renzo Piano and was already considered one of the world’s centers of attraction even before it opened. The international magazine TimeOut included Istanbul Modern’s new building in its list of “22 Best New Things to Do in 2023 .
Among Istanbul Modern’s current exhibitions, there is an exhibition focusing on the construction of the new building. The exhibition “Renzo Piano: The Spirit of Place” focuses on the design and construction process of the museum building. Another exhibition is “Floating Islands”, which brings together more than 280 artworks spread over a large area. Other current exhibitions include Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s photography exhibition “Elsewhere” and “We are always here”, organized through the Women Artists Fund.
As always, the museum attracts attention with its artworks, free education programs and unique view. Of course, with the unique design of architect Renzo Piano, this time it is different, more striking… I suggest you do not complete your tour without going up to the observation terrace. With the arrival of spring, Istanbul Modern is full to overflowing with people enjoying the beautiful weather. It is especially nice to see the intense interest of young people and students. For those who want to spend a quality and enjoyable time, Istanbul Modern is free for visitors residing in Turkey on Thursdays and open until 20.00, and free for students on Tuesdays during certain hours.
