Ferrari 12Cilindri: V12 Versus to Electrics

Ferrari 12Cilindri: V12 Versus to Electrics
Ferrari has announced its stance against the electric car hype to the entire galaxy with the Ferrari 12Cilindri, a Ferrari 12Cilindri with a magnificent atmospheric V12 engine referencing the 365 GTB/4 Daytona!

Ferrari, the most charismatic sports car manufacturer of all time, continues its atmospheric V12 series with the 2024 model 12Cilindri. Replacing the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the 12Cilindri carries that model’s atmospheric, thoroughbred engine without turbo or electric support. The 12Cilindri is the latest representative of the sporty touring Ferraris that started in the 60s, featuring a V12 engine in the front, close to the center, producing 830 horsepower and turning 9500 rpm, making it probably the best acoustic screamer on the road.

A MODERN ADAPTATION OF A LONG HISTORY

Ferrari, which until recently handed things over to its in-house design department instead of its design house Pininfarina, presents a radical look in the 12Cilindri. The design, which bears traces of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, the fastest production car of the 60s, is far from being an exact copy of the model in question and is shaped with a completely new understanding. Still, there are references to the original model. The wedge-shaped, long bonnet that opens forward, the dominant rise above the rear wheels and the black panel that covers the entire front section are all references to the original model. The front daytime running lights are reminiscent of the original model’s chrome bumper details.

THE HARMONY OF CONTRASTING COLORS

The entire passenger cabin of the Ferrari 12Cilindri is covered with a black area, separating it from the body color. It rises from the rear fenders to form an angled joint in the center of the roof, a design detail that has rarely been seen before, differentiating it from all mass-produced cars. This form is essential for aerodynamic stability at high speeds, while the multi-part active wings allow the 12Cilindri to maintain contact with the ground. The aerodynamic engineering, both front, side and rear, is the result of testing in Ferrari’s own wind tunnel.

INTERIOR DOMINATED BY SCREENS

The interior of the Ferrari 12Cilindri was shaped in 3 stages. The first stage is the continuation of the panels coming from the doors towards the top of the cockpit. The second stage is the control units in the center. The third stage covers the lower part of the cockpit and the seats. At all stages, new technologies and comfort elements are combined with superb craftsmanship and materials. The almost symmetrical cockpit design of new generation Ferrari models such as the Roma and Purosangue is also used in the 12Cilindri.

The 15.6-inch screen behind the steering wheel is surrounded by air vents. Above the steering wheel are physical buttons that allow the driver to adjust almost all driving settings. Behind the steering wheel are paddles for manual transmission shifting. The passenger compartment is adorned with an 8.8-inch display with driving information. This makes the passenger feel like a real co-pilot. In the center is another 10.25-inch screen for multimedia and ventilation controls.

GEARSHIFT DESIGN REFERENCING THE PAST

The characteristic gear path design of Ferrari models with manual transmission is also applied to the 12Cilindri, which features only an 8-step dual-clutch automatic transmission. This 5-way transmission selector pays homage to the models of the past. This design makes mechanical transmissions redundant, and there’s room for extra storage compartments. The cladding extends from the center of the cockpit along the shaft tunnel and wraps around the armrest, providing a contrast of different colors and materials. Ferrari joins the sustainability trend with alcantara upholstery, which contains 65 percent recycled polyester.

SYMPHONIC CRIES

When it comes to a Ferrari V12, many car enthusiasts want to hear the engine and exhaust screaming. The Ferrari 12Cilindri is no exception. The 6.5-liter V12, with opposing cylinders placed at a 65-degree angle, produces 830 horsepower at 9250 rpm. The 678 Nm of torque produced at 7250 rpm indicates that we are once again dealing with a new and improved screamer.

The 0-100 km/h acceleration is 2.9 seconds and the top speed is over 340 km/h. Ferrari, which had to limit the sound level coming out of the exhaust at 72 dB due to emission restrictions, did not want to make a limitation for its passengers. Even though the exhaust sound is limited outside the vehicle, the focus is on making sure that all notes are easily heard in the interior.

ALSO AVAILABLE WITH FOLDING ROOF

At the 12Cilindri launch, Ferrari also unveiled the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider. We are not used to Ferrari introducing both coupe and spider convertible versions at the same time when introducing a new model. Whenever a new coupe Ferrari is introduced, a version with a folding roof is usually revealed within a few years.

Breaking this situation with the 12Cilindri, Ferrari also announced the prices of both models. The Coupe starts from 395,000 Euros, while the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider, whose roof folds in just 14 seconds, starts from 435,000 Euros. Of course, when the taxes in Turkey are added to the European prices, you need to prepare a budget above these prices.
