One of the details that makes the watch unique is that mounted in the center of the timepiece is an actual piece of rock from Everest itself, another contribution culled during Nilson’s travels. The shape of the box likes ice floe, when box is opened will play sound of wind from ount Everest.  With these details, watch aims to attract attention to the climate change problem that Earth faces as well as its beauty.”

Jacob & Co., based in Switzerland and known for its astronomical watches, designed a watch together with Swedish explorer and adventure activist Johan Ernst Nilson, who climbed Eeverest which is the highest mountain of world. Watch based on Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia Sky model, designed resistance to altitudes of 6.000 meters and tepatures as -22 degress Fahrenheit; thanks to the Super-Luminova, which brand used for the first time, time will be visible in the dark.

The face is constructed with minuscule transparent buckets of actual water Nilson collected at both the North and South Poles. What’s going on?

Each watch includes an expedition with Nilson, by helicopter, to the place on Mount Everest where the rock was found and price will be donated to a enviromental charity. In 2019, the Swiss-based Panerai collaborated with explorer Mike Horn and presented watch owners an Arctic exploration with Mike Horn. The watch brands led by Panerai and Blancpain take care to manufacture in sustainable buildings, produce watches from ocean waste, and donate to environmental associations. Ulysse-Nardin’s Diver Net Concept watch produced from recyclable materials recovered from the sea, is latest example of this.

On the other hand, there are criticisms that the watch industry does not attach enough importance to sustainability. In the article by Olivier Mülle at World Tempus, it is stated that only the Swatch Group’s fossil fuel production has decreased by 6.7 percent in the last two decades, but the production of special waste excluding batteries has increased by 27.6 percent.
