Oris Carl Brashear Calibre 401 is third watch of Oris Carl Brashear series, tribute to one of the most celebrated American diver.
Carl Brashear was a U.S. Navy master diver, rising to the position in 1970, despite having his left leg amputated in 1966. The film “Men of Honor” was based on his life. Surely, it was not the only project about him. Oris launched 42 mm Oris Carl Brashear to tribute him, in 2016. The Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph, second watch of series, came after two years in 2018. February 2021, Oris launched third watch of series: Oris Carl Brashear Calibre 401.
Oris collaborated with The Carl Brashear Foundation for this new watch. This new watch is different from others with its automatic calibre 401 which has 5 days power reserve. Timepiece has a bronze case like other watches of series. Bronze is a symbol of Brashear’s diving helmet. Also, it is a natural element that patinates as it reacts with external elements (such as oxygen, salty waters, moisture…) Over time, it will take on a unique finish, which will tell the story of the wearer. Caseback engraving by Brashear’s statements: “It is not a sin to get knock down, it is a sin to stay down.” New watch case (40 mm) is thinner than other watches of series.
