Journe and Richard Mille watches stand out at the auction. The most expensive watch of the sale was the Richard Mille Skull Tourbillon Vanitas Vanitatum RM 52-01 Tourbillon.
Richard Mille Skull Tourbillon Vanitas Vanitatum Ref. RM 52-01 Tourbillon’s plates and bridges of the mechanism take the form of skull. The movement is connected to the case by four bridges, inspired by the crossbones from flags on pirate ships. The 42mm-case is made of brown sapphire.
The series produced in 2012 was limited to 21 pieces. The certain selling price of watches that day is unknown, yet according to Antiquorum, the watches were sold for around $500,000 that year. In the past few days, one of these rare skulls was auctioned off for 5 million 450 thousand Euro.
Richard Mille wanted to remind both its promise of eternity and living the moment to the fullest with Latin proverb “Vanitas Vanitatum” by choosing name for the watch. Taking place in many cultures and mythologies, the skull represents freedom and extraordinary.
