Rolex “Zenith” Daytona with turquoise dial sold for $3.14 million, it has been the second most expensive Rolex watch ever sold at an auction.
One of the featured watches was the Rolex Daytona at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong important watches sale on last Friday. This unique Rolex “Zenith” sold for 3,14 million American dollars. It has been the second most expensive Rolex watch ever sold at an auction. Rolex’s record price was another Daytona model which was sold for 3,27 million dollars at Sotheby’s sale last year. (With Daytona that was sold last week, Sotheby’s sold five Daytona models at Hong Kong sales.)
Manufactured in 1998, this is the only known platinum Daytona with turquoise blue “Stella” dial. The timepiece has many interesting features. As you guess, the first one is turquoise blue dial. Another feature is its platinum case in 40 mm diameter. The 1998 date is inscribed on the case back. It is equipped with Zenith movement caliber 4030; that’s why, its nickname is Zenith. This Daytona is unique in its own series with turquoise dial and platinum case. Timepiece has an alligator leather strap and clasp is made of platinum like the case.
The timepiece sold for 3,14 million dollars that more than six times the estimated price. Thus, it has been one of the five watches exceed the estimated price and it has been also the second most expensive Rolex watch ever sold at an auction.
