At Watches and Wonders 2022, Hublot dropped the Square Bang Unico, which is the first square-shaped watch series of the brand.
Introduced in 2005, the Big Bang series has won many awards over the years and has become one of the cult series of Hublot. The brand achieved to exceed the limits of the art of fusion with the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire model that introduced at Watches and Wonders 2021, whose case and bracelet entirely made of sapphire. And today, Hublot unveils the Square Bang Unico that is the first square-shaped watch series of the brand.
When it comes to Hublot, let us first look at “the art of fusion” in timepieces: the cases are in solid titanium, black ceramic, or King Gold, and two blend titanium or King Gold with a black ceramic bezel. The case diameter is 42 mm. Each model comes with a black rubber strap and folding clasp made of the same material as the case. Although water resistance is a challenge for square-shaped watches, the Square Bang Unico watches are designed to be waterproof up to 100 meters.
It is also difficult to integrate the movement into square watches. Since the basic component of a caliber is the wheel, a round shaped mechanism is often needed. Here are things get confusing because a round movement must be integrated into a square case properly, which is a little bit difficult in terms of design. That’s why, the movement can not be seen in many of the square-shaped watches. However, Hublot did not hesitate to reveal the movement on dial of this model. The movement, partly seen through the window at 6 o’clock, is HUB1280 Unico with a frequency of 4Hz and consists of 354 parts.
With the Square Bang Unico, new models are added to square-shaped watch series that we have begun to see more and more at fairs in the last few years.
