We examine the breathtaking shots of 2021 Sony World Photography Award which most prestigious organization in the field of photography.
2021 Open competition Category winners has revealed on March 18th. We are so proud that two Turkish women photographers are on the list of this important organization in which hundred of thousands photographes from 51 countires compete every year. Dilek Uyar took the first place in Street Photography category, Uyar’s another photograph was shortlisted for the general competition. Other Turkish photographer that was shortlisted is Elif Öztürk. Besides these two names, we invite to you a wonderful world in which you can find breathtaking photos from all over the world.
World Photography Organisation is a global organization that established to support photographers and honor theri achivements in 51 countries where it is active. Two important events of organization are Sony World Photography Awards and international exhibiton tour PHOTOFAIRS that most prestigious organizations photography world. More than 500 photographers have been awarded in this program until yet, winners are given right to participate in exhibitions – although it cannot be held for now because of pandemic – as well as Sony digital monitor equipment. In addition, there are also cash prize in general categories. In “normal” times before pandemic, Sony World Photography Awards exhibition was held throughout the year in various cities such as New York, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Liverpool, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro.
More than 330,000 photos from 220 regions were submitted for the 10 categories of 2021 Sony World Photography Awards. The beauty and diversity of the world is reflected at various styles, subjects and techniques from aerial photograpy to impressive portraits. Since competition has a very large participation, winners of different categories are revealed in different times. These categories are revealed until yet: Student&Youth shortlist in January 25th, international awards in February 9th, Professional finalists in February 25th, contribution to photography and winners of open category and shortlists in March 18th. Big final is in April 15th. However, the award ceremony and the 2021 Sony World Photography Awards London exhibition planned to be held at Somerset House between April 16 and May 3 were also canceled. Winners of this year will be announced April 15th via digital media and video platforms.
Pandemic has effected not only organizations, but also photographs. Dilek Uyar, our first Turkish woman photographer who won first place in the Sony World Photography Awards, also won the award in the street photography category with her work titled “disinfection”. Photograph of an officer with protective clothes who disinfected a subway in Ankara, which resembles a dystopian movie scene, is like a summary of our last one year.
