Resignation of Human to Nature

Long walks through the art-filled streets of Istanbul, or music-filled nights that violently draw you towards it when you pass by it’s door, it’s not that the good news doesn’t come, although beauty is in it’s sleep until it meets us. Zilberman Gallery has opened its doors to bring together those who want to see artist Hayat Şaşamazer’s new exhibition “either/or” with art. The artist, known for his wood-carved sculptures, goes beyond the norm and shows human bodies intertwined with moss, lichen, stones or mushrooms in his new exhibition.

Adding irresolute / uncanny young adults to the narrative adventure he started with children in his first exhibition, Şaşmazer’s latest exhibition focuses on adult people, some of whom are amputated.

In his sculptures, which describe the ominous relationship of nature and man, Şaşmazer tells us about the remains of human bodies found in the ancient city of Pompeii as a result of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In addition to the artist’s sculptures, it’s  possible to see watercolor paintings.
